studio presentation
Good architecture does not show itself at completion, but appears later by grace of its users. A design is thus neither end nor beginning. It is a turning point in which reflection on what exists and anticipation of what could come are aligned with each other. The design process lies unbiased between the question and an answer. It unifies different domains of knowledge and structures thoughts. Doubt, chance, and complexity make sense within this iterative process, provided that it is approached with the same determination and seriousness as that of a playful child. This produces designs with integrity and responsibility that capture the spirit of the times and dare to make a statement.
To design, we need to understand. Therefore, we place the greatest importance on dialogue. We embark on research and surround ourselves with partners who know more than we do and excel in their areas of expertise. Thus we avoid a hermetically sealed practice that neither questions nor is questioned. Driven by our commitment to architectural education, our design practice is nourished by a theoretical foundation and a broad frame of reference.
Within our firm, we work on small- and large-scale projects with social, cultural and public interests. Our work is diverse and includes not only private and public commissions but also idiosyncratic and other types of buildings. At the same time, we deepen our understanding of the collective and contemporary housing question, where typological and design research are tailored to the respective projects.
In addition to various publications and lectures, we are on the list of promising designers of the Ghent City Architect, won the Kortrijk Architecture Prize in 2022, received a nomination for the Belgian Building Awards in 2024 in the ‘Rookie of the Year’ category, and in the same year, as part of the Flemish Architecture Institute’s ‘Tafelzetting’ exhibition series, we exhibited our work on the forecourt of De Singel. Our commitment to a more sustainable architectural practice and our focus on the social housing question led to a nomination for the Jo Crepain Awards 2025 in the ‘Social Impact Award’ category.
